Ejecta distribution in the SNR IC 443
Ejecta distribution in the SNR IC 443

Hydrodynamic simulation that reproduces the distribution of stellar debris (ejecta) in the supernova remnant IC 443. The colored isosurface shows the ejecta distribution (density value at 1% of the peak density) approximately 8400 years after the supernova; the colors give the radial velocity in units of 1000 km/s on the isosurface. The outer transparent surface marks the position of the forward shock; the toroidal transparent purple structure represents a molecular cloud of the interstellar medium with which the remnant interacts. The transparent image passing through the center of the remnant is a wide field optical observation of the remnant. The inset box shows a composite optical (red, yellow) and X-ray (blue) observation of the pulsar wind nebula.
